Space of the now

I often find myself in a position that is between spaces. My environment of the in-between constantly compels me to approach my life and work with fresh eyes. This perspective can at times feel like I am living through a second childhood.

It is a place of no mastery or control over things I once felt I had authority over. All that remains with me are memories of a past that often feel more real than my present.

These memories can carry value and influence through new spaces of the experience, from which artworks are a result. The objects or ideas that are made hold no answers, rather they are fragments of ideas and values I am holding onto as I navigate through the in-between.

For me, this is a great strength that the arts in the general offer, a method through which we are given agency to wonder and record connections that carry meaning for us in a moment; preserved to then be reflected upon at a later time from which new value can be derived.

As we change and grow, so can the meanings and values we have in association with the arts. It is meaning carried through generations and offered up again through the dynamics of change. This ongoing interaction we collectively have then becomes art's eternal worth.
